What to do?

First of all, DO NOT power up the drive. If it is an external hard drive, unplug it and call me! If the hard drive is internal (inside the computer) shut down the computer, unplug it and call me as soon as you can.

When the drive is on, it usually makes the damage worse, so the sooner you shut down, the greater the chance of recovery.

Services

There are two types of drive crashes with varying degrees of severity.

Data Corruption :
This is when the master boot record or other system files are damaged. This can include a drive that Windows does not see as formatted or shows a format error. A significant amount of data may be recovered at this level.

Estimated time to accomplish this task is one day (2 to 5 hours), the variable depends on what the client wishes to recover. This can be a specific set of files and folders on the entire drive. Data recovery rates are $25.00 per hour. This does not include the time when automated tools are running, only when a technicians assistance is needed. If you check around, you will find that most others charge far more.

Light Physical Damage :
This is is when the hard drive makes a clicking sound or squeaks but still spins. This can be a number of things but as a general rule, most of the data can be recovered.

Estimated time to accomplish this task is two days (4 to 8+ hours). Data recovery rates are $25.00 per hour. This does not include the time when automated tools are running, only when a technicians assistance is needed. If you check around, you will find that most others charge far more.


Extensive Physical Damage:
This is the worst case scenario. This is when the drive won't spin up or is so badly damaged that standard recovery tools simply do not work. At this level, I have to use the services of a clean room. I will pack your drive up and send it to an offsite lab. They will in turn transfer any recoverable data to DVD or another hard drive.

Estimated time to accomplish this task is two to three weeks. This has a flat rate charge of $650.00
